There was a Home Furniture ad from around the same period in which an incredibly ugly man had his nose right in the camera and was shouting for furniture, including the line “My wife wants lamps!” If you posted that commercial you’d be my new hero.

where is the real gem….Dean saying “I doubt it!” If this were the middle ages he would be known as Bob The Pretender

  • yoanch says:

why do you doubt it dean?

Wow, I remember this place. I went to the one in Revere once (2000ish) and most of their items were so tacky and outdated. I left the Boston area over 4 years ago but occasionally I get curious about what happened to the places I remember! Thanks for sharing.

Much of the information is purely memory, just by watching what happened to the chain over the years. Otherwise, Dean’s scandal and subsequent going out of business was well publicized in the media. Most Dean’s locations were taken over by Bob’s Discount Furniture after the former went out.

hey vaultmaster, where did you get your information about this history of the company? I have also read elsewhere that Bob’s Discount Furniture bought out Dean’s and continued using the “I Doubt It” catch phrase. Any more info?
